Office of Sustainability

Established in 2005, the Office of Sustainability’s mission is to advance sustainability within the Yale community by acting as a catalyst for information exchange and facilitating capacity building, innovation, streamlined operations, and preparation of tomorrow’s sustainability leaders.

Meet Our Staff

Ginger Chapman

Ginger Chapman is the Director of the Office of Sustainability providing leadership and management to ensure the integration of sustainable principles and practices across the university. Prior to her current role she served as the Director of Facilities Sustainable Initiatives supporting units within Facilities to achieve goals set out in the first Yale Sustainability Strategic Plan (2010-2013).

Melissa Goodall
Associate Director

Melissa Goodall is the Associate Director of the Yale Office of Sustainability, where her main focus is developing and implementing sustainability action plans for Yale’s Professional Schools and other high-impact departments. She is also responsible for strategic projects and outreach to support Yale’s sustainability leadership. She is the chair of the Sustainable Campus Initiative of the International Alliance of Research Universities and the co-chair of the Advisory Council of the International Sustainable Campus Network.

Amber Garrard
Senior Manager

Amber Garrard is the Senior Manager for the Yale Office of Sustainability where she works to actively engage stakeholders throughout the Yale community in furthering sustainability efforts and reaching the university’s sustainability goals. Amber’s outreach portfolio includes managing programs such the Sustainability Service Corps, Green Certifications and Sustainability Action Planning for Yale’s cultural properties and Medical School, as well as Office of Sustainability communications. 

Lindsay Crum
Sustainability Metrics & Program Manager

Lindsay Crum is the Sustainability Metrics & Program Manager for the Yale Office of Sustainability, where she oversees and manages the process of collecting and presenting campus sustainability metrics. Lindsay’s portfolio also includes working on sustainable materials management, and Sustainability Action Planning for Yale Athletics, the Libraries, and Procurement. Lindsay has a Master of Environmental Management degree from the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies (F&ES), and is a LEED AP BD+C. 

Sarah Jane Compton
Senior Administrative Assistant 2

Sarah Jane Compton is the Senior Administrative Assistant for the Yale Office of Sustainability where she oversees and coordinates administrative, program, and office activities. Sarah Jane is not new to the Yale community as she previously worked in the Physics Department at Science Hill. During her four years at Physics Sarah Jane volunteered her time to sustainability efforts by becoming a Sustainability Leader, creating a Green Team in the department and implementing strategies for paper reduction.

Emma Smith
Woodbridge Fellow

Emma is Woodbridge Fellow at the Yale Office of Sustainability, where she writes news stories, creates monthly campaigns, and manages social media accounts. She also coordinates annual sustainability programs and works on health and wellness goals as they relate to sustainability initiatives at Yale.

Connor Sullivan
Urban Sustainability Fellow

Connor Sullivan is the Urban Sustainability Fellow in the Yale Office of Sustainability where he provides support for transportation-related university programs. He also conducts research, writes reports, creates maps, and assists outreach activities to promote urban sustainability on campus.

Elsie Moore
Global Sustainability Research Fellow

Elsie Moore is the Global Sustainability Research Fellow in the Yale Office of Sustainability, where she focuses on connecting the university’s sustainability work to global initiatives, particularly the UN Sustainable Development Goals. She also provides support to Yale’s professional schools on sustainability implementation.
