Promoting Wellness

Activities that make our campus more sustainable often have additional benefits. These benefits relate directly to our health: a healthy planet makes for healthy people; a healthy environment leads to healthy societies. Consider the ways that you can improve your health as well as the health of those around you:

Best Practices

Move around. Many of us are frequently looking for ways to be more active. Utilize active transportation during your daily commute or as you move around campus throughout your day. Propose walking meetings, try out our bike share program, or take the stairs instead of the elevator. Not only will you feel better, but you’ll improve air quality by saving energy and reducing travel emissions.

Eat healthy. Choosing a vegetarian diet is not only good for your body, it’s also good for the environment. Follow our healthy meeting guidelines when planning your next study break or staff gathering. Don’t forget to stay hydrated. Use water bottle filling stations around campus to fill your reusable water bottle and help us cut down on waste leaving campus.

Breathe easy. Yale’s campus is now tobacco-free! Share Yale’s many cessation resources with those who may need them, and help spread the word—less tobacco litter means less pollution in our streets and waterways.

Keep your mind clear. Take advantage of Yale’s green spaces and explore campus. A college courtyard, an urban meadow, or the bike path can all offer space to take a breath of fresh air and return to your work more invigorated.

Clean green. Yale follows a set of green cleaning standards for all building maintenance. Follow these guidelines at home or when purchasing products to clean your work or study space.

Declutter and destress! Take advantage of the many donation drives that happen throughout the year on campus. Decluttering your space can make you more focused and alert while knowing that the items you no longer want or need can be used by someone else.
