Over the past several months, many buildings have been shutdown due to the pandemic. As a result of this, Yale University realized significant energy savings and emissions reduction:
- Central Campus building power consumption was down almost 20% for the April to June 2020 timeframe as compared to the previous three-year April to June average.
- Campus emissions for FY20 are targeted to be about 15,000 MTCDE (Metric Tons of Carbon Dioxide Equivalent) lower than last year. This is due to Yale Facilities continuing efforts to maximize building energy savings throughout the entire year and in particular during the mid-March through June timeframe.
- Kroon Hall was able to cut its energy use in half during the shutdown period. This was the most significant energy reduction percentage of all the large buildings on campus.
