Sustainability awards students, faculty, staff for outstanding service

June 1, 2015

The Office of Sustainability’s leadership awards are presented annually to students, faculty, and staff who have had an impact on Yale’s environmental and social efforts. Winners are selected through a university-wide nomination process that considers the individuals’ contributions to enhancing sustainability at Yale.

“This year’s winners,” says Ginger Chapman, Director of the Office of Sustainability, “represent another exceptional group of environmental change-makers.”

Lindsay Toland ’15 M.E.M.

Toland was the recipient of the student award for her work at the School of Forestry & Environmental Studies (F&ES), where she authored the school’s sustainability action plan, developed a portfolio of waste management programs, and conducted research on building-occupancy behavior in Kroon Hall. Prior to her studies at F&ES, Toland worked at the Yale University Press, where she led the office’s green team.

“In a community full of environmental stewards and activists, Lindsay Toland is a standout,” said Jenaleah Clarke, ’15 M.E.M. in her nomination.

Dr. Jodi Sherman, Dept. of Anesthesiology, Yale School of Medicine

Sherman received the faculty award for her internationally recognized efforts to green the operating room. Sherman’s groundbreaking research into the environmental impacts of modern anesthetic agents has catalyzed a pathway to more environmentally responsible operational practices.

“We are very thankful for our award recipients and their work,” notes Chapman. “Our students and campus benefit tremendously from their contributions.”
