Office of Sustainability Summer 2012 Sustainability Fellowship

The Yale University Office of Sustainability seeks candidates for two Sustainability Fellow positions in the summer of 2012. These posts are designed to provide hands-on experience to current students or recent graduates with an interest in campus engagement in sustainability. The selected candidates will be offered hands-on, project-based assignments.

Tasks may include:

  • Writing and editing website and other outreach materials
  • Enhancing the Yale Sustainability social networking profile
  • Developing and testing community engagement tools
  • Creating video and other multimedia materials
  • Supporting the development and implementation of sustainability strategies around campus
  • Helping to enhance the Global Climate Coalition, which will have hosted an event at the Earth Summit in Rio in June, by fostering dialogue between participating groups and drafting website content

The 2012 Summer Sustainability Fellows will join the Office of Sustainability’s summer team of current and international students in support of these initiatives. Specific projects will be assigned to the Fellow based on interests and experience as well as the overall composition of the summer team.

Qualifications:

This position is open to: current college students and recent graduates who have been out of school for two years or less; students between their first and second year of a master’s degree; or a recent graduate of a master’s degree program. We welcome Yale and non-Yale candidates.

Candidates must demonstrate solid research and writing skills, a strong grasp of sustainability terms and concepts, the ability to work independently, exceptional organizational skills, the ability to communicate his/her own ideas and proven leadership experience.

This position is paid and will provide the ambitious candidate with the opportunity to develop skills which will enable him/her to be an effective sustainability leader.

Date of Fellowship: May – August 2010 (exact dates negotiable)

Hours per week: 40

Number of weeks: 10

Stipend: hourly rate based on experience

CEP Summer 2012 Sustainability Fellowship

The Yale University Office of Sustainability and the Center for Environment and Population (CEP) are pleased to announce the availability of a joint Sustainability Fellow position for the Summer of 2012. The Sustainability Fellow position is designed to provide hands-on experience for a recent graduate or current Masters candidate with an interest in campus engagement in sustainability. The selected candidate will be offered a unique opportunity to work with two leading organizations in an innovative, internationally recognized campus sustainability program office with hands on, project-based tasks. 

 

Tasks may include:

  • Writing and editing website and other outreach materials
  • Enhancing the Yale Sustainability social networking profile
  • Developing and testing community engagement tools
  • Supporting the development and implementation of sustainability strategies around campus

Research Assistant Position: Yale Community Carbon Fund Research Assistant

(Note: open to internal Yale Student applicants only)

The Yale Community Carbon Fund Research Assistant will assist with the on-going development of the Yale Community Carbon Fund (YCCF).  The YCCF, launched in 2009, is an innovative local carbon offsets program.  Donations made to the fund are used to support local carbon mitigation initiatives that go beyond Yale's immediate campus, including energy efficiency installations in low income homes and local non-profits.  These initiatives both reduce carbon emissions and save low income residents of New Haven money spent on energy bills.   

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Assist with ongoing monitoring activities, specifically reaching out to and tracking the energy and financial savings accruing to local residents in New Haven who have received programmable thermostats from the YCCF.
  • Update the YCCF website and carbon calculator.
  • Assist with marketing the YCCF to the Yale community, community project partners and future clients.

The ideal candidate will have the following skill-set:

  • Must be a self-starter and independent worker capable of working with both internal (Yale University) and external (New Haven community) parties;
  • Strong quantitative skills and a familiarity with carbon and energy markets and associated industry standards and databases;
  • Excellent research, organizational, interpersonal, writing and communication skills;
  • Computer skills including website content management system knowledge.

Must be willing to commit to the position for the remainder of the 2012 academic school year and preferably continuing into the fall semester of 2012, working approximately 8-12 hours a week in the Yale Office of Sustainability.
