Yale Community Carbon Fund
Yale's Voluntary Carbon Reduction Program
Reduce your carbon footprint while assisting low income New Haven residents save money on their energy bills!
The Yale Community Carbon Fund is a joint project of the Office of Sustainability and the Center for Business and Environment at Yale to support local carbon mitigation projects that go beyond Yale’s immediate campus.
Click on the calculator button below to begin the process of making a donation. This calculator is a great tool to work out the emissions associated with your regular commute, occasional travel or Yale related events. You will be asked to provide some basic information and the calculator will predict your associated emissions. It will then suggest a recommended donation to the fund. If you decide to make a donation, it will connect you to a secure website to do that.
Your donation to the fund will support local renewable energy and energy efficiency projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and help low-income New Haven residents save on their energy bills. These investments actively work to lesson our environmental impact and improve the lives of local residents, but the projects do not receive carbon offset certification and are not third party verified.
These are some of the events for which donations have been or will be made to YCCF to mitigate emissions from the events!

Your goal should always be to do everything that you can to minimize your emissions; the office of sustainability has numerous ways to help you do that – see http://sustainability.yale.edu/get-involved. You can even use the calculator to work out how many emissions you can save by changing the way you do things. For example, if your department organises a webinar rather than bringing people physically to campus, you can use the event calculator to work out the emissions you saved by having a webinar!
A donation to the fund will help to offset the emissions that you cannot avoid. Even if you manage to reduce your own carbon footprint in other ways, consider making a donation. The money you give will help low income people living in New Haven make similarly good choices, enabling them to live more sustainable and economically secure lives.
